Walnut shell paste for a body scrub

I made took my soaked walnut shells and put them through a blender today. The poor little blender had to work pretty hard, but it managed. Now I have a nice thick paste that I am hoping to utilize as a body scrub for my arms. First, I now have alot of ingrown hairs there now. Second, it will hopefully further go into the skin.

The "juice" of the steeped shells has been strained and poured into a bottle. I am thinking about adding it to something that has alcohol in it, like the witchazel rub, and using those as my astringent solution after daily tweezing on my face. I tried it today, it it is nice, smells great, and my skin feels really refreshed.

    Ingredients
  • 50 percent white cane sugar (note that organic sucanat, while the best choice for food, doesn’t work as well for this recipe)
  • 50 percent vegetable glycerin to moisten the sugar (I used avocado oil since I was out of vegetable glycerin and it proved to be a successful substitute)
  • Small amounts of aloe vera gel, vitamin C crystals, or anything healing that dissolves in water
  • 1 or 2 drops of essential oil if desired (Larry recommends combining orange and lavender)
  • Enough ground hibiscus powder for pink color (if desired)
Combine the ingredients in a bowl. Scoop some of the scrub onto your hand and massage gently onto your skin for a minute (the scrub will actually tighten onto your skin like a masque). Leave on for 3 to 4 minutes before rinsing.

Tumeric for hair removal

http://www.ehow.com/way_5708812_turmeric-hair-removal.html

  • Indian homes have numerous beauty recipes that include turmeric. These recipes not only prevent excessive hair growth but also lighten and exfoliate the skin.
Remove unwanted hair from face, arms and legs by applying a paste of 1 tbsp. of black gram flour with 1 tsp. of yogurt and a pinch or turmeric powder, recommends Hair-n-skin-care.com. Evenly apply to face, relax and allow it to dry. Once completely dried, gently scrub the paste off. Turmeric removes hair, sanitizes the face and adds glow. Apply baby or almond oil to soothe skin.
Gram flour is a natural cleanser and scrub, says Yogawiz.com. Using gram flour alone or with turmeric reduces hair growth.
Many mix turmeric powder with milk and add directly to face, arms and legs. A paste of raw turmeric along with rock salt also acts as hair inhibitor. Hairremoval.in recommends using 1/4 tsp. of turmeric powder mixed with the same amount of papaya powder, gram flour, 2 tsp. of mustard oil along with a couple of drops of essential oils, as a recipe to remove unwanted hair.

http://www.livestrong.com/article/206884-homemade-facial-hair-removal/

Regularly weekly application of a paste made of chickpea flour and turmeric will remove facial hair gently and discourage hair growth, especially on the chin and cheeks. At the same time, the mixture will cleanse the skin and leave a healthy glow. Use high quality turmeric, otherwise the spice may leave a temporary yellowish tint on the skin. Turmeric and chickpea flour, which is also known as besan flour or gram flour, can be found in Indian markets, Asian specialty markets or health food stores.

Step 1

Place 1 tbsp. chickpea flour in a cup. Add enough milk or water to form a thick paste.

Step 2

Stir in 1 tsp. cream or yogurt and a pinch of powdered turmeric. The mixture should be thick but spreadable.

Step 3

Wash your hands with soap and water so that any bacteria on your hands won't be transferred to your face. Cleanse your face, using a cleanser formulated for your skin type. Allow your face to air dry.

Step 4

Apply the chickpea flour paste over the facial area where you wish to remove hair. Smooth the mixture over the area in the direction of hair growth.

Step 5

Allow the mixture to dry completely, and then use a dry washcloth to scrub the area, working opposite the direction of hair growth.

Step 6

Pat your face dry with a soft towel, and then apply sweet almond oil or olive oil to the area to sooth the skin and replenish lost moisture.

http://ayurvedichomeremedies.blogspot.com/2008/06/some-tips-for-hair-removal.html

Following tips are recommended.

  1. Increase the intake of blackgram in diet.
  2. Reduce intake of hot and sour foods.
  3. Apply turmeric paste to face and areas of hair growth while bathing.
  4. Asoka gritham 2 spoonful morning and evening on empty stomach.
  5. Asokarishtam 25 ml after food at bedtime.
Application of blackgram powder mixed with turmeric powder on face removes oil from face. It does not dry up the skin but arrests unwanted hair growth.
Experience has shown that for permanent hair removal a few sessions of sugaring followed by application of turmeric and black gram (Bengal gram/besan) paste on the affected areas seem to work wonders. The subsequent hair growth is found to be thin and sparse. Repeating the process eventually leads to permanent hair removal.

http://ukamina.3bb.ru/viewtopic.php?id=4

Ant egg oil

directions:

===========
You use Tala Ant Egg Oil by first removing the hair from the root and making sure the area is clean, dry and free of other oils/products. You have to remove the hair either by waxing, tweezing or epilating. You can NOT shave. You then apply a few drops of the Ant Egg Oil on the area and massage the Oil in for about 10 minutes. You apply the Ant Egg Oil for 5 days and each of these days you make sure the area is clean and dry and then massage the oil in for about 10 minutes. It is very easy to use. Just make sure you don't use it when shaving otherwise it won't work.

As far as I could tell from few scant reviews online, this leads to some reduction, but not permanent removal of all hair. The cost is about $30 per bottle, and I am not sure how much bottle would last.

A lady who used home IPL machine on one underarm and the ant oil on another reports better results with the IPL after 10 months of treatment, but the egg oil did provide a significant benefits - the fair grows thinner and lighter (although that could be the result if constant waxing, since waxing will also weaken the hair roots).

Links to reviews are below.
IPL v egg oil - http://bonnieleewarner.webs.com/apps/blog/show/13595178 - reduction, some bold spots, noticeable lighening and thinning of the hairs itself, but not permanent reduction after about a year or so; IPL machine provided better results
be best me experiment: http://bebestme.wordpress.com/2012/08/07/hello-world/ -  reduction, some bold spots, noticeable lighening and thinning of the hairs itself

Despite supposedly being a traditional Turkish remedy for hair removal, this oil because popular in Turkey only a few years ago and has since now been banned for sale in that country:

Масло муравьиных яиц  (Тала Ant Egg oil)

===========

Pet allergies

I am continuing my research on pet allergies. Both my Mom's cat and my sister-in-law's dog have very severe allergies that are not alleviated by traditional treatment methods, so I am looking for safe and cheap alternatives.

http://www.earthclinic.com/Pets/allergies.html

The main list of cures provided there:

ACV, diluted 50/50 with water, sprayed on or bathed in
ACV baths/sprays + plain organic yogurt in food
ACV treatments + flax or fish oil
Adding raw eggs in food and rubbing coconut oil into the affected areas of the skin

Interestingly enough, tea tree oil was not only NOT recommended, but some indication was that it might be poisonous to the dogs. Need to double-check that.

This site and several others confirm that tea tree oil can be toxic, esp. for small animals:

I also looked up coconut oil for allergies, and apparently alot of articles confirm the beneficial effects....

tumeric as hair growth retarding agent

I am looking at cheapest ingredients available to start my experiments with hair growth inhibition, so I am looking at tumeric and a few other common ingredients that I can obtain anywhere

http://www.dailyglow.com/askquestion/turmeric-facial-hair-turmeric-for-facial-hair-i-ha.html

You should know that the use of turmeric alone will not make any difference to your facial hair. You would have to combine it with a variety of other products in order to see effective results. In any case, to what extent you can actually reduce facial hair would totally depend upon a variety of factors. These would be the type of hair you have, the density of that hair, your age, and finally, how regularly you use methods to actually get rid of it. The most important thing is that you adopt whatever means you have to on a fairly regular basis. Finally, this is what would pay you back the most. If you are interested in a quick fix, you can get your facial hair threaded. This is the best way to get rid of it momentarily. If you continue to do this on a regular basis, you can be assured that your hair will reduce in growth over a period of time. However, you should also know that this could take an exceptionally long time to happen. But any other home based remedial measures you may apply would also take that kind of time to show positive results. You have to keep in mind that you must be patient, otherwise you will not be able to do this successfully.
You can make a mixture of a tablespoon of black gram flour, a teaspoon of fresh and plain yogurt and a pinch of turmeric powder. This should be evenly and smoothly applied to your face and left to dry. Once your skin begins to sort of stretch and pull, you can actually rub this off your face. This will require some amount of effort and will also be painful to begin with. But you should know that this is the most effective natural way to get rid of facial hair. The turmeric powder will act in two ways here. It will help to sanitize your skin after the procedure is complete and will also lend a good glow to you. Like wise, you can also make a mixture of black gram and flour with honey. Keep in mind that this will hurt your face much more than the yogurt mixture will. It will also be extremely tough to actually rub off the face. But this will also show results more quickly. You should try this method out for at least thrice a week for effective and quick results.

Apparently, the yellowing of the skin is a problem, so there are two types of tumeric that are available, one of them is not as strongly colored.

Capislow and hair growth

while reading various google results, I came across information on Capislow, which, apparently, an active ingredient in some after-depillation products.

 http://skinactives.websitetoolbox.com/post/Capislow-1578565 writes
The active in Capislow is Larrea divaricata extract, and the chemical is called nordihydroguaiaretic acid.

After looking up  Larrea divaricata, it appears that the common name for the plant is chapparal, or greasewood, which has been mentioned on other forums before as a hair growth inhibitor.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larrea
http://www.herbalremedies.com/chaparral-information.html
Chaparral contains lignans that are very similar to estrogen, giving it an effect on the skin similar to that of soy taken internally

Chaparral can be toxic
